When you were in high school, did you know what you wanted to do? Did you know for sure if it could be done with or without a college degree? For many of us who may not have known what we wanted to do, college was a good starting point.

Without a college degree, many people become stuck in a certain job, or with a certain company, with very few opportunities for advancement. A college degree will not guarantee a high salary right away, but people with college degrees typically are more competitive for higher paying jobs.

In addition to life-long career opportunities, college offers life skills. Perhaps you will run for student council, play sports, or join the art club. Whatever your fancy, chances are you can find a group of like-minded individuals to interact with over your passions.

Hiring managers want employees that they can trust, and a college education goes a long way in establishing trust-worthiness in an employer’s eyes. Even if you must go to school part-time over a span of several years, the commitment demonstrated in graduating shows a great deal of perseverance.

Presenting a credential as prestigious as a college degree speaks volumes to employers. Employers realize the hard work that goes into obtaining a college degree and they do not overlook it. A college degree shows that you know you are worth a good career and you have taken the proper steps to earn a foot in the door.

Without a college education, career options may be limited to serving those who do have college degrees – which is absolutely fine if this is your sincere desire, but what a shame to wake up 20 years later and realize it is not!

While it is difficult and challenging, college is definitely worth it, and you’ll thank yourself later for putting in the effort now!
